The Scandinavian Garden

The Scandinavian Garden

Airy, serene and simple. With these words you could describe the Scandinavian garden. If you love an environment where you can completely unwind, you probably get all zen when seeing the Scandinavian style. Discover the calmness of "Nordic living" in your outdoor space! Now just waiting for the Northern Lights.

Fifty shades of gray of Scandinavia

In countries like Sweden and Denmark, they have well understood how to give a home or garden the atmosphere as if the sun is always shining. Namely: by using light colors. That way, the long, dark Scandinavian evenings still take on a sunny glow. In the Scandinavian garden we therefore see many light, neutral colors like white, shades of gray or subtle pastels like mint green or corn yellow.

Scandinavian: simple and cozy = "hygge"

The Scandinavian garden style is functional and minimalistic without too much fuss. Convenience serves man. Less is more. Despite that simplicity, the Scandinavian garden style remains cozy. The Danes use the word "hygge" to describe this atmosphere. The materials of the furniture refer to nature. So wood, wool, glass and plain stone. Think light, hardwood rhombus siding, or a garden path of white gravel.

Gravel, wood and stone

The coziness in Scandinavia does not come from an excess of accessories, but rather from cozy, ecological materials and round shapes. You won't encounter many coarse woods and stones here. The furniture is understated, as are the accessories. Actually, plants are the main decoration here. The Scandinavian garden is a soothing oasis of light, natural colors, shapes and materials, in an otherwise busy and demanding world.

How do you get a "Scandi" garden?

Are you a lover of the Scandinavian garden? Then choose calm, even outdoor tiles in a light color, a wooden dining table in also light, neutral color such as white or gray. Anyway, go for airy, compact furniture that stands "high on its legs" - that is, with some space to the floor. Preferably no massive objects - the Scandinavian garden trend calls for spaciousness. Also: lighting fixtures in a white or light wood finish. Also consider a fire basket for cold winter nights, enclosed in light, organically shaped tiles. For your lighting plan, use spotlights - after all, that's where every good lighting plan starts. Make sure they are nicely concealed in the ground, for example, so that your garden is lit in a safe and pleasant way, at night. In addition, choose warm white, indirect light. LED bulbs, of course, because in Scandinavia they value sustainability.
