Frequently Asked Questions

Installation

Are in-lite outdoor fixtures waterproof?

All in-lite fixtures are suitable for outdoor use. Fixtures with LED light sources are waterproof (also refer to the IP values for our products), but are not designed to remain under water permanently. Use our underwater spotlight for this instead.

Can all of the in-lite transformers and cables be combined together?

Yes, with the exception of our mini transformer. We do, however, recommend that you use only one type of cable in your yard, even if you want to install several transformers (and therefore make several cable plans for a single yard). This will prevent mistakes that may lead to less than adequate functioning of the system.

Can I add fixtures to in-lite lighting that I already have?

Yes, you can. You can add fixtures to an existing cable plan or expand your cable plan. However, make sure you consider the maximum load of the transformer and the cable. For more information, visit the installation tips page.

Can I connect in-lite outdoor lighting to a 220 volt cable or main power supply?

Only if the in-lite fixture expressly indicates that it can be connected to 220 or 230 volts. Refer to the installation recommendations for the product in our product list or the manual.

Can I install the transformer outdoors?

Of course! All our transformers can be used outdoors. However, you must consider a few things when installing the transformer. Visit the Installation Tips page and read the manual for the specific transformer.

Can I install your lighting systems in paving or wooden structures?

Yes, part of our range of ground lights can be installed in paving and/or wood. Read the installation recommendations for the specific ground lights and the manual for the best way to do this.

Can I use my own transformer or 12 volt cable?

No, that is not possible. The LED electronics in particular are sensitive to interference or fluctuations in the system. We remind you that when your lighting is connected to a system that includes products that are not from in-lite, this will void the warranty. We can no longer guarantee the quality of our products in such cases.

Can you drive over the in-lite ground lights?

Several of our fixtures can be integrated into, for example, a driveway. Discover the range of drive-over ground lights in our product list.

Do I have to make a lighting plan first?

You don't have to, but it is wise. A lighting plan ensures there is light in the right places. It also makes it easier to choose the fixture type and you can quickly and easily calculate the technical components that are required. Good preparation is half the job! Read our blog about how to create a lighting plan.

Do I have to protect the cable connector against water ingress?

No, you do not. The Easy-Lock connector can be installed above or below ground without any problem. The special gel in the connector protects the connection against moisture and other external factors. Read more about this on the Installation Tips page.

Do I have to switch the lighting on manually every evening?

That is an option, but not necessary. Our transformers are equipped with a light sensor that automatically switches the lighting on as it gets dark. Read more on the Installation Tips page or refer to the transformer manual.

How can I install an in-lite outdoor fixture farther away from the 12 volt cable?

Special extension cords are available to increase the distance from the fixture to the cable. Watch the “Installing an extension cord” video or visit the installation tips page.

How do I adjust the timer on the transformer?

How long is the cable that is attached to the fixture?

The cable on nearly all of our fixtures is about 60 cm, measured from the fixture to the Easy-Lock. If the cable for a particular fixture has a different length, this is indicated in the installation recommendations. Please refer to the specific product in our product list. Special 1 meter, 2 meter and 3 meter extension cords are available to increase the distance from the fixture to the cable. Read more in the cable manual or visit the page about connecting the lighting.

How many fixtures can be connected to a single transformer?

That depends upon the capacity (watts) of the transformer and the electric potential (VA) of the lamps that you want to connect to the transformer. More information can be found on the Installation Tips page or our blog about the cable plan.

I do not want to install my in-lite system myself. Who can do it for me?

I still have in-lite halogen lighting in my yard. Can I combine it with LED lighting?

I want to install my in-lite outdoor lighting myself. Where do I start?

First, have a look at the page about the in-lite 12 volt system. We also recommend that you watch the videos on the Installation Tips page. Always refer to the manual and installation recommendations with our products for specific installation instructions.

Is installing in-lite outdoor lighting difficult?

No, no technical knowledge is required to install in-lite lighting. For an explanation of our system, visit the in-lite 12 volt system page and the Installation Tips page.

What should I do if a single outdoor fixture does not switch on?

Check that the fixture is correctly connected to the low-voltage cable. Refer to the Installation Tips page, product installation recommendations and the product manual to learn how. Test the Easy-Lock by replacing it with another (functioning) fixture. Check the light source of fixtures with an incandescent or halogen bulb by replacing the bulb. Still no luck? Then contact the gardener or dealer where the product was purchased. They can also provide a replacement Easy-Lock.

What should I do if my outdoor lighting fails to switch on no matter which transformer program I use?

Make sure the transformer is installed correctly. Refer to the Installation Tips page and the manual. If it is installed correctly, check for a possible power failure by checking the red reset button on the bottom of the transformer. It should be pushed in. If the button is not pushed in, the transformer probably experienced an overload. Press the red button to reset the transformer. Still not working? Then please contact one of our dealers.

What should I do if my outdoor lighting does not come on when it is dark outside?

Check the following points:

  • Is the light sensor mounted correctly? See the video on installing the transformer & light sensor.
  • Is the button on the transformer set to DUSK TO DAWN (D/D) or to the timer (number of hours)?
  • Is the light sensor affected by artificial light? This is easy to check by covering the light sensor with a dark cloth. The lights should turn on after a few seconds. If the lights turn on, move the light sensor to a location away from the artificial lighting.
  • Has the cable for the light sensor been extended? Make sure this has been done correctly. See the video on extending the light sensor cable.

If the lights do not turn on after checking the above points, then the light sensor is probably defective. Separate light sensors are available from our dealers. If the dealer does not have it in stock, they can order it from us.

What should I do if my outdoor lighting stays on longer than I have set the transformer for?

Be sure to mount the light sensor for the transformer in a location where it will not be affected by artificial light, such as car headlights or street lights. Also visit our Installation Tips page.

Which in-lite fixtures can I submerge, for example, in a pond?

You can only use our special underwater spotlight for this. It is designed to be permanently installed under water. However, keep in mind that the mini-connector must always be located out of the water and the spotlight must be removed from the water before the water freezes.
